By purchasing 100 percent wind power, the Inn at Horn Point's commitment to the environment reflects a life-long pursuit of impact reduction. The Inn has been able to reduce municipal garbage to an impressive one single 40 gallon garbage can per month while hosting over 1,700 visitors annually and a family of up to eight--the rest recycled or composted. The Inn's recycling program includes plastic bags, bottles, glass, office paper, cardboard, aluminum pans and wrap, and plastic containers, plastic sheeting (bags and wrap), electronics, and other hazardous waste. Since 2002, the Inn at Horn Point has also installed compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs in all possible fixtures, collects rainwater with three rain barrels to water plants, avoids using fertilizer and pesticides, purchases local produce and organic food products, uses green cleaning products, and asks guests to reduce their environmental footprint by reusing towels and linens.
