Through dedicated collaboration on new scientific and engineering insights, and as one of the top three R&D investors in the Life Science tools industry, EMD Millipore serves as a strategic partner to customers and helps advance the promise of life science. Headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts, the division has around 10,000 employees, operations in 67 countries and 2010 revenues of USD 2.2 billion. EMD Millipore is known as Merck Millipore outside of the U.S. and Canada. In 2008, EMD Millipore completed its first purchase of renewable energy certificates, for the electricity used in four of its U.S. manufacturing facilities and its corporate headquarters. In 2009, EMD Millipore installed a 310-kilowatt solar array system on two buildings in Massachusetts, making it one of the largest solar PV systems in Massachusetts. The company also installed solar in its Molsheim, France manufacturing facility. EMD Millipore communicates its green power purchase on its product packaging and other marketing literature to inform customers that the company is working to find innovative solutions to address the complex challenges of its products and packaging. A key focus area for the company, as well as most challenging, is around product stewardship, how our products are used, and what happens to them at the end of their life. Purchasing renewable energy credits for our manufacturing facilities is just the start towards minimizing the environmental impacts from our products. | |
