Mt. Ashland ski area purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) equal to the electricity used to run the ski area lifts, night lights, day lodges, and the corporate office in Ashland. Mt. Ashland educates its guests about the program and asks them to help the non-profit ski area recover its investment by upgrading their season pass to a "Donor Pass" pass for $40 and lift ticket buyers can upgrade their ticket with a $1 investment. All of the RECs are dedicated to the development of wind power. Mt. Ashland has offset 100 percent of its electrical use through the purchase of RECs since 2006. The ski area won a Silver Eagle environmental award for excellence in energy conservation/clean energy from the National Ski Association in May of 2007.
