| Partner Profile Mt. Hood Meadows is committed to advancing their sustainable business practices which protect, restore, and maintain natural resources, and Mt. Hood. Their commitment to purchasing renewable energy is a part of their comprehensive environmental sustainability program. The resort purchases renewable energy credits offsetting 100 percent of its operations. It also encourages guests to offset their own travel to the mountain through the purchase of SkiGreen offsets. Meadows has been looking for ways to reduce their carbon emissions and cut costs. Examples include installing energy efficient lighting, investing in energy efficient appliances and electronics equipment, and reducing unnecessary idling. The resort’s commitment to reducing waste allowed it to reduce the frequency of garbage collection service throughout the season which saves money and impact in the landfill. This savings was reinvested into additional recycling receptacles placed prominently throughout the resort. The increase has provided opportunities that enable guests to divert even more materials from the landfill. Their recent accomplishment of achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold and Silver certification for two new building replacements is an investment in energy efficiency, water conservation, and occupant well-being that will reap great rewards. | |
