| Partner Profile Nixon Peabody LLP is among the largest multi-practice law firms in the nation, with more than 700 attorneys collaborating across major practice areas in 17 cities. Firm attorneys counsel clients on issues including climate change, renewable energy, clean technology, sustainable development, and environmental law. Nixon Peabody began to purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) in 2007 as part of its Legally Green initiative, a firm-wide commitment to improve the sustainability of its office space. In 2007, with the build-out of its San Francisco office, Nixon Peabody became the first law firm to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in the category of commercial interiors; the firm purchased RECs as part of the LEED certification process. Nixon Peabody has subsequently purchased RECs as part of the LEED certification process for other offices, including Albany (LEED Silver), New York City (LEED Silver), and Chicago (LEED Gold). Nixon Peabody believes strongly that it must take a leadership role to address climate change through its sustainability efforts, including but not limited to the purchase of green power. "We recognize that the operation of a law office has an impact on the environment, and we seek to reduce that impact through a variety of sustainability initiatives. By purchasing green power we are reducing our carbon footprint, supporting our renewable energy clients, and leading by example," says Carolyn Kaplan, Chief Sustainability Officer. | |
