Raritan Valley Community College has its main campus in North Branch, NJ. The college was the first community college in the U.S. to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the EPA. The college has received several environmental awards and certifications, including AASHE STARS Bronze certification, River Friendly certification, a sustainability award from Sustainable Raritan, and an environmental stewardship commendation from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The college has been running a cogeneration engine (for heating, cooling, and electricity generation) since 2008, commissioned a 446 kW solar array in 2011, and is now is proud to be purchasing 10 percent green power. The switch was easy, inexpensive, and consistent with the college's environmental goals.
