Safeway Inc. is a Fortune 100 company and one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States. The company operates 1,300+ stores in the United States the banners of Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Carrs, Randalls, Tom Thumb, and Pak 'n Save. Safeway is also the first retailer and grocer in North America to join the Chicago Climate Exchange and commit to legally binding reductions of its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2012, Safeway joined The Climate Registry (TCR) making it the first and only grocery retailer to be a member of TCR. The company's membership to TCR strengthens its position as a sustainability leader and provides additional transparency to its greenhouse gas emissions. Safeway Inc. joined EPA's Green Power Partnership in 2005, and is currently generating renewable energy at 19 of its store locations and one distribution center.
