| Partner Profile Southern Oregon University is an inclusive campus community dedicated to student success, intellectual growth, and responsible global citizenship. Following a comprehensive education campaign that resulted in broad-based support across the institution for green power, the University began purchasing renewable energy certificates equivalent to more than 100 percent of its electricity use and is engaged in aggressive energy efficiency initiatives. Following this initiative, students decided to change their focus from green energy in general, to local renewable energy projects. The students revised their self-imposed tax, the student Green Fund, to discontinue purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates from distant projects to provide funding for renewable energy projects on campus, which are currently in the planning stages. "Southern Oregon University is located in a unique bio-region. This gives us added incentive to reduce our environmental footprint as we work to educate our students and communities about the challenging environmental issues we all face", said Jonathan Eldridge, Vice President for Student Affairs. | |
