| Partner Profile Since the day we opened our very first store in 1971, Starbucks has been committed to doing business responsibly and in a manner that earns the trust and respect of our customers and neighbors. Starbucks" Shared Planet" means focusing on the core areas where we have the biggest influence — ethical sourcing, environmental stewardship and community involvement. Energy use makes up roughly 80 percent of our directly controlled carbon emissions. That makes it our single biggest impact on the climate — and our single biggest opportunity to make significant improvements. Purchasing renewable energy and supporting green power are two important measures we are taking to reduce our contribution to climate change. In 2010, Starbucks took a big step and increased the amount of energy purchased for our company-operated stores that comes from renewable sources from 25% to 50%. | |
