The State of Delaware secured a renewable energy carve out of 30 percent in its 2013 aggregate electricity supply contract with over 45 state and non-state entities. Through Executive Order 18, signed in February 2010, Governor Jack Markell challenged state government to lead by example in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling, clean transportation and environmentally sensitive procurement. As part of this effort, the Governor set targets to address greenhouse gases associated with electricity consumption in state facilities through the use of clean, renewable energy. Through aggregating load with non-state agency partners and aggressively procuring our supply on the open market, the State secured attractive electric supply rates that include an abundance of renewables, including Delaware located renewables.
