| Partner Profile The Athenian School is a college preparatory boarding and day school located on a 75-acre campus at the base of Mt. Diablo in Danville, California. The School is provides more than half of its energy needs through solar power. Environmental stewardship has been a core value of The Athenian School since it was founded in 1965, and has saved money by committing to the use solar energy, reducing landfill waste, and increasing their recycling efforts, reducing natural gas for hot water and heating by 45 percent since 2004. "It was compelling imperative for the School to become greener," said Bob Oxenburgh, Director of Finance and Facilities. "As a learning institution, we should show a concern about pouring greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, and instead play our part in reducing the burning of fossil fuels." | |
