| Partner Profile One of America's legendary resort destinations, this 540-room, Italian Renaissance-style hotel resides on 140 acres of Florida oceanfront property in the heart of Palm Beach. Founded in 1896 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Breakers purchases 13,000,000 kWh of green power annually, equivalent to roughly 50 percent of the hotel's annual electrical power consumption. "Protecting and preserving our environment and our natural resources continues to be a critical factor in how we make business decisions," says Richard Hawkins, Director of Materials Management. "We believe that it is important for business leaders to demonstrate a commitment to carbon free energy if they truly desire to promote sustainable business practices. One of our company's 'Key Strategic Drivers' is environmental sustainability, and our goal is to set standards that can be a model for our employees, community, and peers." Purchasing green power was not difficult nor prohibitively expensive for The Breakers, and it has enabled them to educate their employees about the role of green energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. | |
