The City University of New York (CUNY) is comprised of 19 separate campuses throughout the five boroughs of New York City, with over 35,000 faculty and staff serving approximately 510,000 students. CUNY uses over 1 percent of the entire electricity load for NYC, operates some 300 buildings, large and small. CUNY joined the EPA Green Power Partnership in 2006 and is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2017 under Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC 2030 sustainability program. CUNY's wind power contract is part of a sustained effort to green the operations and learning opportunities of the nation's largest urban university system.
