The Kresge Foundation is a $3.1 billion private, national foundation that seeks to influence the quality of life for future generations through its support of nonprofit organizations in six fields of interest: health, the environment, community development, arts and culture, education and human services.
The organization purchases enough green power for all of its electricity use. In June 2008, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded The Kresge Foundation headquarters a Platinum-level rating, distinguishing it as the first non-profit organization in Michigan to achieve platinum certification for a new construction. “It formalizes our commitment to being stewards of the environment and students of ever newer and better ways to foster sustainability in the workplace,” says Rip Rapson, president of The Kresge Foundation.
The Kresge Foundation recognizes that the earth has finite resources and practice good stewardship and to foster responsible behavior that safeguards the environment. To reduce the environmental impact of their operations, facilities, and services, they continuously seek approaches that promote conservation and technologies that increase efficiency."
