Uinta Brewing Company, which received honorable mention in the 2002 Green Power Direct Purchase Awards, is committed not only to brewing great beer, but to environmental stewardship. In addition to its energy-efficient facility, its support of local community organizations, and its emphasis on recycling, the brewery uses only renewable energy to cover its electricity needs. In July 2011, Uinta installed 126 Schott 235-watt module solar panels that supply about 15 percent of the electricity usage. The rest of the brewery's power comes from energy produced by wind power, purchased though credits. Uinta president and founder Will Hamill strongly supports the decision to invest in clean, renewable energy, despite the increase in the company's utility bill. Using the slogan "earth, wind and beer," Hamill believes that the environmental benefits strongly outweigh the costs and that consumers will be drawn to a product brewed by renewable energy.
