| Partner Profile UNFI is a leading independent national distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods and related products. The company has committed to producing and purchasing clean, renewable energy for its distribution centers and office buildings for a portion of its electricity consumption, and they are seeking additional ways to incorporate green power into its business activities. UNFI’s concern for the environment, including its deep focus on environmental stewardship, has been the main driver of its sustainability initiatives. Tom Dziki, UNFI's Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development, says "Through our efforts as an environmentally-conscious organization, we continue to increase our production and procurement of clean, renewable energy, while remaining committed to managing costs and improving shareholder return. Investing in renewable energy is the right thing to do, and it’s been an enjoyable process to formally commit ourselves to a high level of environmental integrity through this Green Power partnership program." According to UNFI, their investments in onsite solar power generation have exceeded expectations, and they find that purchasing RECs is an easy and often inexpensive way to also invest in green energy. The company has saved thousands of dollars through its use of clean power, but they believe that the environment has been the biggest benefactor of their green power commitments. Moreover, the company-wide commitment to sustainability is inspiring associates across the organization. Seeing the economic and environmental returns from clean power, people throughout the company are more supportive of additional projects that help protect both the environment and company’s bottom line. | |
