| Partner Profile Universal City, the gateway to Randolph Air Force Base, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010. Located just 2 miles outside of San Antonio, Universal City has a population of 20,000. Ten percent of the total electricity consumed in Universal City comes from clean wind energy, with over two percent of the community participating in the green power purchasing program. The City and its residents have an expressed desire to reduce its dependency on energy sources that impact the environment. Renewable energy, such as wind power, provides a reliable and affordable means to that end. “I’m overwhelmed with the residents’ commitment to partner with the City on the purchase of renewable energy” said Mayor John Williams. “It took less than one year to fulfill the requirements to become a Green Power Community. It is impressive to know that so many people understand the need for clean energy and can come together so quickly to make it a reality. Universal City is a clean energy leader in Texas and it is our hope that other Texas communities will follow our example.” | |
