The University of Washington (UW), which joined the Partnership in May of 2006, is purchasing power from a voluntary green power product. In addition to their green power leadership, UW has a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Since the early 1990s the University has partnered with its electricity provider to conserve energy. UW is currently a partner in the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest Smart Grid Demonstration Project which will result in smart meters being installed in virtually all campus buildings. A goal is that campus electrical consumption can be reduced by 5 percent. The University has increased it's commitment to environmental stewardship by creating and filling a full time Energy Conservation Manager position. The current manager is a LEED accredited professional member of the U.S.Green Building Council and a Certified Energy Manager, Association of Energy Engineers.
