The U.S. General Services Administration Region 7 has a proud tradition of energy efficiency. The Region's Award winning Energy Team is highly regarded by industry and other Government Agencies. R7 has been a heavy user of ESPC contracts to improve the performance of its buildings. The Region was the only GSA Region to make use of ESPC contracts to deliver its ARRA high performance green building program, Currently the Region operates its buildings at an average of about 48,000 Btu per gross square foot rivaling the best operating practices. R7s use of ESPCs allowed it to leverage appropriated funds with alternatively financed funds and thus install 12 monocrystalline and one thin film solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at its buildings. R7 regularly is among the top GSA Regions in terms of energy efficiency performance. Most recently R7 used an electronic reverse auction to procure 50 percent clean renewable wind generated electricity for over 100 of its buildings at favorable pricing This was a five-year contract term. It also uses advanced metering systems to closely monitor energy use.
