| Partner Profile UW Credit Union, based in Madison, Wisconsin, is a federally-insured financial institution and a leading provider of a full range of financial services to University of Wisconsin communities. One of the credit union's corporate social missions is to be a good community member, which entails seeking to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. In 2008, UW Credit Union took the City of Madison Mpower pledge, and as part of that committed to buying electricity that was generated using renewable resources. Today, they purchase 100% green power for all branches operated by UW Credit Union. By virtue of this action, the organization has been able to spread awareness about the advantages of purchasing green power to its community, and has done its part to reduce the City of Madison's overall carbon footprint. Along the way, UW Credit Union has learned the importance of building margin into its green power purchasing budget to respond to price fluctuations. As Brad McClain, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, says, "We take our role as a responsible community member seriously. Our leadership team's philosophy is to 'do the right thing.' By purchasing green power, we're able to do the right thing for our community, for our members, and the environment." | |
