Wire Belt is a fourth-generation family owned company, manufacturing conveyor belts primarily used in the food industry. The company started getting serious about conserving energy about 10 years ago. Since then, they have cut their electrical usage in half. One of Wire Belt’s major energy-saving initiatives includes the installation of a 100 kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) array, producing approximately 25% of their electricity demands. A real-time meter of these savings is shown on the company homepage at www.wirebelt.com .
Wire Belt’s green power solutions such as solar energy, geothermal, and high-efficiency lighting, have all contributed to reducing energy costs and help to keep the company competitive. Wire Belt’s commitment to pollution prevention and environmental stewardship is engrained into the culture and driven from the top down.
“It is a goal of mine for Wire Belt to be a leader in green technology, and show our neighbors in New Hampshire that one can be ecologically sound while also remaining a profitable business. Being green shouldn’t hurt. In fact, done right, it will not only save money in the long run, but will do so at a much lower ecological impact to our environment,” says David Greer, CEO of Wire Belt Company.
