Partner Profile
Southwest Airlines Co. is a major domestic airline that provides primarily short-haul, high-frequency, point-to-point service and operates over 500 Boeing 737 aircraft in 65 cities. Southwest Airlines is proud of its green power purchases, which was a cost-effective way to decrease its environmental footprint. The company's green power commitment is to purchase energy from renewable sources, such as wind, to meet a significant portion of the company's energy needs for its Dallas and Houston operations. This includes its corporate headquarters campus, aircraft maintenance hangars, ground support equipment maintenance facilities, numerous pilot and ground operations training facilities, and customer support and service centers.

The primary driver behind Southwest Airlines's commitment to green power was its desire to "do the right thing" and the integration of its "Core Values" into everything it does, which includes being good stewards of the environment. "Environmental Stewardship is a responsibility Southwest takes seriously, and efficient operations are the hallmark of our Company and the foundation of our environmental commitment," says Gary Kelly, President, CEO.
