John P. Horton

Biography

John Horton, a New Jersey engineer and businessman, has been nominated by President Reagan for Assistant Administrator for Administration at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Horton, who began his career 30 years ago in pollution control work, holds a doctorate in Sanitary Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of New Jersey.

Over the past 10 years Dr. Horton has been a businessman and is the director of seven companies involved in the manufacture and distribution of mechanical sweeping equipment.

"I feel fortunate to have as my business manager, a person who has been so successful in both the environmental and business areas," said Anne M. Gorsuch, EPA Administrator.

"President Reagan wants to run government efficiently and in a business-like manner, and John Horton has the desire and experience to do this," said Mrs. Gorsuch.

"Government facilities and personnel are too valuable a resource to be used inefficiently. As a businessman, I plan to emphasize the prudent use of taxpayer dollars in every activity EPA performs," says Dr. Horton.

Dr. Horton's former experience includes work on the American Public Works Association, New Jersey Clean Air Council, New Jersey State Planning Task Force, and the State Council for the Future.

Horton also has had published over 20 technical articles. He is a member of several research and engineering honor societies, and holds 12 patents on his inventions.

Horton, 56, is married and has four children. He will be moving from Bernardsville, New Jersey, to Washington, D.C.
