Formaldehyde Workshop

UPDATE: EPA has finalized the Agenda for the upcoming formaldehyde workshop to be held on April 30th and May 1st, 2014, at the Crystal City Marriott at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. New details provided in the final Agenda include a list of confirmed speakers, additional information on the timing and format of the workshop sessions, slightly revised discussion questions which have been edited to improve clarity, and a description of the recently-added “wrap-up” session at the end of the workshop.

EPA is currently revising its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment of formaldehyde. This assessment addresses both noncancer and cancer human health effects that may result from chronic inhalation exposure to this chemical. To facilitate discussion of several scientific issues pertinent to the assessment, EPA will convene a state-of-the-science workshop. This workshop will be open to the public, broadcast by webinar/teleconference, and will take place in Arlington, VA.

This workshop is scheduled to take place on April 30 and May 1, 2014.

The formaldehyde workshop will be held at the Crystal City Marriott at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia and will be accessible via webinar/teleconference.

Workshop Overview:

EPA is planning a public workshop to discuss several scientific issues related to its draft IRIS assessment of formaldehyde (inhalation exposure). The workshop will focus on the following three themes:

These topics will be discussed during a workshop that is open to stakeholders and the public. The overarching goal of the workshop is to facilitate scientific discussion of these issues and the scientific challenges they pose for assessing the health hazards of inhaling formaldehyde. Please note: a separate workshop to discuss general issues (not specific to formaldehyde) related to conducting health assessments of chemicals that are present endogenously is currently under development. EPA anticipates this second workshop will be held later in 2014.
