Upcoming Conference Session Outreach - February 2012

The EPA National Library Network will exhibit and present at several national conferences in the upcoming months:

Yearly conference outreach provides an opportunity to meet library community stakeholders in person and offer updates on EPA programs. The Library Network plans to discuss its strategic roadmap and support for the agency's mission to protect human health and the environment. Network representatives will also highlight environmental information that is freely accessible through library channels.

Library Network Leaders Recognized - November 2011

Five EPA Federal Library Managers were recently recognized by local organizations for their outstanding achievements. The range of awards speaks to managerial excellence across the Library Network and include:

Diane McCreary, Region 3 (Philadelphia, PA), received the 2011 Regional Administrator's Award for Excellence. It recognizes behind-the-scenes work that does not always receive the recognition it deserves. As the Federal Library Manager for Region 3, Ms. McCreary was commended for adding innovative resources such as e-readers to the library, for supporting the construction of a new library conference room for meetings and instructor-led training, and for contributing to national-level planning for the Library Network.

Heather Wright, Office of Administration and Resources Management (Cincinnati, OH), received the 2011 Federal Service Excellence Award in the Senior Program Support / Technical Award Category from the Greater Cincinnati Federal Executive Board. As the Federal Library Manager for the Andrew W. Breidenbach Environmental Research Center (AWBERC) Library, Ms. Wright was recognized for outstanding performance in managing unique and visible projects, resulting in superior reference materials and resources for EPA library patrons and the general public.

Jeannie Turner, Office of Administration and Resources Management (Cincinnati, OH), received the 2011 Federal Service Excellence Award in the Technical Support / Information Technology Award Category from the Greater Cincinnati Federal Executive Board. As the manager of EPA's National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP), which includes the digital repository of EPA publications, Ms. Turner was recognized for creative leadership in providing increased access to the Agency's environmental publications through innovative technological solutions.

April Errickson, Office of Administration and Resources Management (Research Triangle Park, NC) and Deborah Balsamo, Office of Environmental Information (Research Triangle Park, NC), received the 2011 Chief Information Officer's Award for Innovation. Both provided leadership and support in the launch of the webinar-based National Training Program for the Library Network, which brings locally developed library classes to EPA staff across the agency.

EPA Publishes Strategic Plan for Libraries – June 2011

To foster transparency about the future direction of its libraries, EPA has released a strategic plan with implementation goals and a three year timeline (Fiscal Years 2012-2014). The published plan follows nine months of collaborative writing and review by the EPA National Library Network and its internal stakeholders. EPA's advisory board from the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) and Federal Library Information Network (FEDLINK) also reviewed the plan and supported its publication (3 pp, 906K, About PDF).

The EPA National Library Network Strategic Plan responds to well-documented user needs and seeks to strengthen EPA's network of libraries to ensure continued convenient and effective access to environmental information. It includes implementation goals in four key areas:
