- Boone County Landfill is a county-owned landfill and serves a population of 117,000 in five different central Iowa counties. The landfill has been in operation since 1970 and the first Subtitle D cell was constructed in 1994. They are a recognized leader in Iowa and operate a comprehensive list of programs including Keep Boone County Beautiful. Their landfill diversion rate is 55 percent.
