Description: City of Santa Cruz Resource Recovery Facility entered a franchise agreement in 1989 for construction and operation of an LFG collection system and electric generation facility. The current system operator, Santa Cruz Energy LLC (affiliate of Fortistar Methane Group), exports power to Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) via the grid and pays the City a royalty of 15% of gross revenues. Gross power generation will be (effective November 2009) about 10 GWh/year, using a Caterpillar 3520 engine.
