Description: The City of Xenia, with a population of approximately 24,000 people, is located in Greene County, Ohio. Between 1950 and 1990, the City operated a sanitary landfill on approximately 45 acres of land. Currently, the City is operating an explosive gas collection/flare system in the central portion of the closed landfill in order to mitigate the migration of the methane. Since methane is still actively being generated at the landfill, the City is evaluating the possibility of using the captured gas to power the onsite Public Service Building. To date, the City has not been involved with any LFG energy projects.
