- Description
- OC Waste & Recycling manages the County of Orange's solid waste disposal system which is comprised of three active regional landfills, and numerous closed sites in Southern California. In 1981, OC Waste & Recycling began its public private partnerships to beneficially utilize LFG, resulting in a successful renewable energy program. Olinda Alpha Landfill hosts an energy plant that generates approximately 5.6 MW. An expansion project has increased the production there to 32.5 MW. Bowerman Landfill has a 23 MW energy plant in development that replaces a decommissioned LFG to LNG facility. An energy plant at Prima Deshecha Landfill generates approximately 6.3 MW. Coyote Canyon, a closed landfill, has an energy plant that produces approximately 7 MW. A recent RFP attracted a near-zero emission microturbine project at the closed Santiago Canyon Landfill. This project is in the early stages of development and the projected output is 2 MW.
