- The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners owns and operates the Perdido Landfill, an integrated municipal solid waste management facility. The facility includes a class I/III landfill, transfer station, yard trash processing facility, waste tire collection center, recovered materials process facility, household hazardous waste collection center, and an LFG collection system (LFGCS). The LFGCS supplies LFG to the Perdido Landfill gas energy facility, owned and operated by Gulf Power, a division of the Southern Company. The generating facility utilizes two Caterpillar 3520C/SR4B generator sets to produce 3.2 MW of electrical power. Both the blower/flare and electrical generating facility were designed for expansion, the blower/flare to 4400 scfm and generating facility for two additional Cat 3520C engine/generator sets. The generator plant entered commercial operation on October 7, 2010.
