- The Windham District is home to the first LFGE project in the United States that was started by individuals in the 1980's. The District is in the process of trying to upgrade the system that has antiquated privately owned equipment. The original generating capacity of the system was 800 kW and is now being sized to generate about 200 kW. The 30-acre landfill which closed in 1995 is presently flaring gas until a new system can be developed.
