Public Notice: EPA Begins Seventh Five-Year Review of Oakdale Dump Superfund Site Superfund Site
Summary
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) are conducting a five-year review of the Oakdale Dump Superfund site, also known as the 3M Oakdale Disposal site, in Oakdale, Minn. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the seventh five-year review of this site.
Waste buried onsite has resulted in the contamination of soil and groundwater with volatile organic compounds on two separate sections of the site called the Abresch and Brockman parcels. A third parcel, Eberle, required no cleanup activities. Cleanup hasincluded groundwater extraction, sealing water wells, and removal of buried waste. Groundwater quality monitoring and the operation of a groundwater pumpout system are ongoing. Additional cleanup activities outside of the federal Superfund process and not included in this five-year review are being conducted at the site under MPCA’s direction.

The review should be completed by September 18, 2024.
