Moving Forward

The mission of the EPA National Library Network is to support EPA staff and the public by providing timely and accurate information in appropriate formats at the point of need.

EPA’s Vision for Library Services

The EPA National Library Network is an essential information partner with EPA staff and the public to support decision making, environmental awareness, and protection of human health and the environment.

Recent Accomplishments

EPA published a strategic plan for its libraries with implementation goals and three year timeline (Fiscal Years 2012-2014).

Six new procedures for the EPA National Library Network went into effect in March 2011, along with updates to the existing policy and procedures.

EPA published an update to its environmental reference bibliography in March 2010 through the collaborative effort of the agency's information professionals.

EPA conducted an agencywide information needs assessment in 2009 to better understand EPA's library information access requirements.

EPA has reached Phase III of its project to digitize EPA publications, which targets documents held by multiple libraries.

Engaging with Stakeholders

EPA continues to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.  These include a board of advisors from the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) of the Library of Congress, professional library associations, the scientific community, academia, and the public.

Next Steps

EPA will implement the goals outlined in its National Library Network Strategic Plan throughout Fiscal Years 2012-2014. EPA is committed to supporting an effective physical and virtual library network that provides timely information access and library services as it plans for the future.
