NCEA's Global Change Impacts and Adaptation program, as part of the ORD Global Change Research Program, assesses the potential vulnerability to climate change (and other global change stressors such as land-use change) of EPA's air, water, ecosystem, and human health protection efforts at the federal, regional, state, municipal, and tribal levels, as well as adaptation options to build resilience in the face of these vulnerabilities. We carry out interdisciplinary syntheses across newly emerging scientific findings to identify potential impacts, and characterize and communicate the uncertainty in the science, to provide support for decision makers and managers. Air Quality:

  • Our air quality work includes projects that focus on the regional-scale impacts of global climate change on pollutants in the U.S., these climate-change impacts relative to the effects of emissions changes due to population growth and technological development, and the human health risks associated with these air quality impacts.

Water Quality & Aquatic Ecosystems:

  • Our water quality work includes projects that are sector specific and integrative across many aspects of water, including communities, their green and grey infrastructure, human dimensions, and aquatic ecosystems.

Interagency & International Assessments:

  • Our work with other federal agencies and international organizations includes coordination with the Climate Change Science Program, reports supporting the National Assessment and work with the World Health Organization.

Methods and Tools:

  • Our products result in a variety of tools, data products, and methodologies geared towards helping decision makers and managers apply information provided on our website, including climate, land use, and hydrologic scenarios, and assessment approaches.
