| Purpose: |
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research
and Development is holding a two-day workshop on Computational
Toxicology in Research Triangle Park, NC, on September 29-30, 2003.
The goal of this workshop is to promote discussion concerning
the use of the tools of modern computing, chemistry, and molecular
biology to develop predictive models of toxicity and improve quantitative
risk assessments for both human and ecological health.
The agenda will consist of presentations by EPA scientists concerning
the development of a research program within the EPA on computational
toxicology.
Scientists from other agencies, academia, and other research organizations
will give presentations on related goals of their institutions
and selected examples of computational approaches. Breakout groups
will be formed to help envision the impact of computational toxicology
on prioritization of chemicals for testing and improving quantitative
risk assessment. For more information about this research area,
see EPA’s “A
Framework for a Computational Toxicology Research Program in ORD.”
