EPA Issues Call for Nominations For Scientific and Technological Achievement

WASHINGTON (NCER) - Nominations are being accepted for the 2004 Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards (STAA) program. STAA is an EPA-wide competition that recognizes outstanding published scientific and technical literature authored by Agency employees. The STAA program began in 1980 and is sponsored by the Office of Research and Development which also manages the program. Nominations are peer reviewed by the EPA Science Advisory Board.

Three cash awards are available, ranging from Level I ($1000) to Level II ($2500) to Level III ($5000). Cash awards are shared by the eligible authors of the paper depending on the contribution of each author. Honorable Mention is also available for worthy achievement. There are several topical award categories including: Control Systems and Technology, Ecological Research, Health Effects Research and Human Health Risk Assessment, Monitoring and Measurement Methods, Transport and Fate, Review Articles, Risk Management and Ecosystem Restoration, Integrated Risk Assessment, Social Sciences, Environmental Futures, and Environmental Statistics. These priority categories change yearly to respond to Agency needs.

Nomination packages should be sent to Maggie Breville, Peer Review Division, National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) 8725R. All nominations must be received no later than COB February 4, 2004.
