Office of Research and Development is Requesting Suggestions for Candidates to Serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors
Dear Colleagues:
We have begun the process of identifying possible new members for the Office of Research and Development's Board of Scientific Counselors (BOSC). This year, a number of BOSC Executive Committee Members will be completing their tenure on the Board. We would appreciate your assistance in identifying candidates for membership on the BOSC.
The BOSC was originally chartered by the Agency in 1996. Its main purpose is to provide advice to the Assistant Administrator for Research and Development on the operation of ORD's research program. The BOSC's primary functions are to:
(a) evaluate science and engineering research programs, laboratories, and research management practices of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) and recommend actions to improve and/or strengthen their relevance to the mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and
(b) evaluate and provide advice concerning the utilization of peer review within ORD to sustain and enhance the quality of science in EPA.
The BOSC reviews selected ORD processes and activities and offers written recommendations to improve the quality and efficacy of our research program.
The membership of the BOSC will include a balanced representation of interested persons with professional and personal qualifications and experience to contribute to the functions of the BOSC. We are seeking candidates from academia, business and industry, environmental organizations and other related organizations. Committee members are appointed for terms of one to four years by the EPA Deputy Administrator.
Candidates should be identified by name, occupation, organization, position, address, telephone number and email address, and if available, a current c.v. Candidates will be asked to submit a resume of their background, experience and qualifications and other relevant information as part of the consideration process. Please submit your suggestion no later than May 30, 2003 to:
