Purpose:

For those interested in the effectiveness of different approaches to environmental management, and the circumstances that make each approach work best, this will be an opportunity to hear many of the top researchers funded by EPA.

Researchers from EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grants and other projects will present results investigating how ownership, managerial performance, corporate structure, profitability, community activism, and program design affect the success of different approaches to environmental management. Compliance and enforcement, environmental management systems (EMS), information disclosure, and government and industry-led voluntary programs will all be discussed.

EPA’s Region 7 Administrator, Jim Gulliford, will be a speaker; EPA’s Administrator Mike Leavitt has been invited to present. If you are a policy maker, practitioner or involved in economic, legal, decision science and business management research, this workshop will be an ideal venue to learn about EPA’s research on market behaviors.

For people unable to travel to Washington for the event, please consider participating via the internet. EPA is mounting all the presentations on the internet and will have a limited number of phone lines available. You will be able to see and hear the presentations and have the opportunity to submit questions to the presenters. The event is free, but you must register in advance to participate. We encourage those who do register to invite co-located colleagues to join them on their access line. Once you register, you will be given complete information and instructions to participate. For more information and to register, see http://clu-in.org/studio/ceb exit EPA.
