Title: 9th Annual Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award Ceremony and the 8th Annual Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference: The Business Imperative for Sustainability
Date: Monday, June 28 - Wednesday June 30, 2004
Location: National Academies Building

Michele Gandy of the American Chemical Society, (202) 452-2138, greenchem2004@acs.org

Purpose:

The Eighth Annual Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference will combine science and business in addressing the theme "Green Chemistry and Engineering: The Business Imperative for Sustainability". Green chemistry and engineering focus on the design, development, and implementation of chemical processes and products that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances in a way that is both feasible and economically viable. The conference sessions will address how innovations in green chemistry and engineering have been successfully implemented and will consider what needs to be done to further the adoption of these technologies in business.

The Annual Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference is a unique opportunity for attendees to:

  • Listen to case studies highlighting the successful implementation of cleaner technologies.
  • Hear from industry and government leaders on the role of green chemistry and engineering in sustainability.
  • Learn about the 2004 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award-winning technologies.
  • Discuss research developments in green chemistry and engineering through poster presentations.
  • Network with colleagues and establish new collaborations.

EPA (ORD and OPPT) sponsors the Green Chemistry and Engineering (GC&E) conference through a cooperative agreement with the American Chemical Society to provide administrative and technical support.
