| Purpose: | On October 30, 2004, EPA, NIH, and NIOSH will hold a progress review meeting titled “Endocrine Disruptors: Epidemiologic Approaches” to present research funded as a result of a joint solicitation released in June 2000.
The progress review will be part of the e.hormone 2004 meeting organized by the Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities. The e.hormone 2004 meeting will occur on October 27 – 30, 2004 and the progress review is all day on October 30th. The study investigators will discuss the results of their research evaluating the association of reproductive, developmental, cancer, and other endocrine effects with exposure to toxic hazards in the environment, including pthalates, persistent halogenated organic compounds, and other chemicals. The meeting will culminate with a panel discussion on the “Translation of Research Into Public Health Practice and Policy.” The panel discussion will provide the opportunity to present and discuss different challenges in translating and applying the results of research to public health practice and policy. Brief perspectives will be offered by panelists as related to medical diagnoses and treatment, state and local regulatory decisions/practices, economic analyses, legal deliberations/actions, and public health promotions and interventions. |
