Blending Science and Education
NCER’s Brandon Jones recently accepted a position on the national advisory committee for the Centers for Ocean Science Education Excellence or COSEE (http://www.cosee.net/ 
). Brandon’s appointment came after a request from the National Science Foundation and the principal investigators of the COSEE network.
COSEE’s mission is to “promote partnerships between research scientists and educators, disseminate best practices in ocean sciences education, and promote ocean education as a charismatic, interdisciplinary vehicle for creating a more scientifically literate workforce and citizenry.”
As a member of the committee, Brandon will help strengthen this national program by providing strategic advice and helping advance the organization’s mission to increase collaboration between scientists and educators who study the oceans. For example the COSEE team is now conducting surveys and focus groups to get input on what scientists, educators, and policy makers need from -- and can do with -- ocean observing systems data and resources.
