Title: Improving Resource Recovery of Organic Waste to Alleviate Environmental and Economic Problems in a Depressed Urban Environment
Using composting and waste-to-energy solutions to remove organic wastes from New Orleans East
This P3 project is finding new ways to remove organic wastes dumped near a disenfranchised neighborhood in New Orleans East. Researchers will improve planning, management, coordination and education to promote composting and mixing of these wastes into fuel sources and develop other income-producing products out of the wastes. They also hope to establish community control over the incoming wastes, processing of the waste, and help the community reinvest the profits in the local economy.
