Title: Phosphorus Recovery from Sewage
Can phosphorous be recovered from municipal sewage waste and used as a fertilizer additive?
P3 researchers are looking into whether phosphorous can be recovered from municipal sewage using biological removal and chemical precipitation. This project is addressing the limited availability of phosphorous rock ore and the water pollution effects of phosphorous runoff from agriculture. Recovery and reuse could take advantage of a resource while limiting environmental impacts, making production and agricultural use of phosphorous sustainable.
