Title: Wind Power from Kites: Low-Cost, Sustainable Energy for Developing Nations
Worcester Polytechnic Institute students are designing a low-cost system that generates electricity from the up and down motion of a tethered kite. Currently two billion people worldwide live without electricity. Conventional sources of windpower are often too expensive or unable to generate sufficient power in areas with little wind. The students will create a low-cost and highly efficient kite system for generating electricity in rural villages.
