Title: Manufacture of Photovoltaic Solar Cell Using Plant Chlorophyll
St. Lawrence University students will create a chlorophyll-based photovoltaic cell to generate electricity from solar power. Using chlorophyll, the substance that allows plants to create food from photosynthesis, it is possible to produce solar cells at room temperature as opposed to the 1900° C required for silicon-based cells. Reducing the temperature will make the production process affordable, benign, and support the widespread use of solar cells.
