Title: Converting Campus Waste Streams into Locally Used Energy Products through Steam Hydrogasification and Methane Reformation
A team of students from University of California Riverside (UCR) are investigating the use of mixed waste streams, including food, paper, landscaping and trash, from the UCR campus to produce clean liquid transportation fuels known as syngas (synthetic gas). The production of the fuel must be economically reasonable compared to fossil fuels and also meet the stringent national fuel standards. If successful, this would reduce material sent to landfills, develop a clean sustainable transportation fuel and significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emission footprint of the campus.
