Title: Linking Water Purification and Biofuel Production
A team of students from Appalachian State University will develop a system that uses algae to purify waste water and generate oil for biofuel at the same time. The oil producing algae are fast growing organisms and the best biofuel feedstock. The algae can be grown on the surface of the waste water and easily separated from the treated waste water so they are not released with the clean water. This is protective of ecosystems.
