Title: Community-based Soil Quality Assessment as a Tool for Designing an Urban Green Infrastructure Network to Manage Runoff

DePaul University’s team is working with high school students in Chicago to choose the best green infrastructure for their neighborhood. Green infrastructures (GI) such as rain gardens have been shown to control storm water runoff from urban areas and protect downstream areas from erosion and pollution. Collaborating with the Gary Comer Youth Center in the Grand Crossing community, the team is using soil assessment of vacant lots to identify the best options for GI in the neighborhood.
