ORD Researchers Attend JSOT Annual Meeting and Brief Colleagues on EPA Research
A trio of ORD scientists is attending the 36th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Toxicology (JSOT) in Morioka, Iwate, Japan, and are visiting several universities in Japan from July 3 to July 12, 2009. These scientists are to meet with the Japanese investigators at Iwate Prefecture Institute for Public Health and Environmental Sciences to provide a briefing on perfluorinated chemical research at EPA. One of the researchers is chairing a session at the JSOT meeting entitled "Environmental Pollution and Toxicity of the Perfluorinated Compounds," and another is delivering a lecture on "Toxicology of Perfluoroalkyl Acids." Later, two of them will meet with their CRADA collaborators at Wako Pure Chemical Industries for discussion of research progress. All three scientists will be delivering a special lecture for undergraduate students in the Department of Environmental Systems Engineering at Ritsumeikan University. The topic of the lecture is on how EPA handles exposure issues, health risk assessment, and risk management of chemical pollutants in the environment. Also, a seminar on perfluoroalkyl acid research conducted at ORD is to be presented to the faculty and students of Kyoto University Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies.
