GED Director Appointed to NOAA's Oceans and Human Health Initiative Advisory Panel
William H. Benson, Director of NHEERL's Gulf Ecology Division (GED), has been reappointed to a 3-year term as a National Advisory Panel member for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Oceans and Human Health Initiative (OHHI). The term will expire in May 2012.
The advisory panel is authorized under the Oceans and Human Health Act of 2004 and was established by OHHI in May 2006. NOAA OHHI is comprised of competitively designated internal Centers of Excellence, a competitive external grant program, support for distinguished scholars to work with NOAA, and fellowships for graduate and postdoctoral students. The role of an advisory panel member is to provide advice to NOAA with regard to the development of the OHHI vision, mission, and goals; to prepare and periodically update the NOAA OHHI research plan; to synchronize related activities between OHHI and NOAA, as well as with other agencies and organizations; to evaluate OHHI on a cyclical basis; and to integrate data management and outreach activities.
